The Ligaforeningen (LF) is the association representing clubs in the Sæløsk Ligaen, the highest division of the Sæløsk football league system. It is responsible for the administration and commercial operation of the competition.
Established in 1993, the LF operates under the authority of the Sæløernes Boldspil-Sammenslutning (SBS). The SBS retains responsibility for competition regulations, refereeing, disciplinary matters, club licensing and the overall governance of football in Sæløerne.
History
Ligaen was originally administered directly by the SBS. The increasing commercial demands of top-flight football during the 1980s and early 1990s led its clubs to seek a separate organization through which they could manage their collective interests.
The Ligaforeningen was established in 1993 by the clubs competing in Ligaen. Administration and commercial operation of the competition were subsequently transferred from the SBS to the new organization.
The LF did not replace the SBS as the governing body of the competition. Sporting regulations remained subject to SBS approval, while the lower national divisions continued to be administered directly by the association.
Organization
Membership of the Ligaforeningen consists of the ten clubs competing in Ligaen. Clubs entering or leaving the division through promotion and relegation gain or lose membership accordingly.
The member clubs are represented at the LF’s general assembly, which elects the organization’s board. The LF represents their collective interests in dealings with the SBS, broadcasters, sponsors and other organizations involved in professional football.
Responsibilities
The Ligaforeningen is responsible for the administration of Ligaen, including fixture scheduling, league branding, broadcasting arrangements and central sponsorship agreements. It also establishes common commercial, operational and media requirements for participating clubs.
Competition regulations are drawn up in cooperation with the SBS and remain subject to its approval. Referee appointments, disciplinary proceedings and club licensing are handled by the SBS.
